SP is making so much damn money off the Ion because it's a decent marker for a low price. I was thinking in Biology that DYE should put out a marker in similar level (price and performance) to the Ion. DYE's reputation alone would carry them. n00bs and people who know their stuff would both buy it. They might even use Proto as a brand name to avoid DYE being directly associated with low priced guns. Yeah, I know R&D would cost a lot, but SP really hit a goldmine with their idea. Now there just needs to be some competition.

I was thinking a Matrix (DM3 possibly Proto)) style marker, with a cheaper stock barrel, reg, board/software, grips, bolt, etc. Just strip the Proto down even more. Then put a $300-$350 price tag on it and people will buy it. Being an Ion owner, I would trade in the Ion in a second if DYE did this. Just a thought...

I'm trying to get up some drawings on what my version would look like...

spool valve markers cost a lot of money to make.

Used DM3s are only going for 250$ now.

Here are my drawings. Very rough, so don't make fun of me. All but the last were done during Biology.

I started with as close of a copy of the Proto 'Trix as I could get.

I transformed it. I increased the body size, simplified the milling, added a non-clamping feedneck and a crappy reg. It is now called the Proto MX, standing for Matrix-X; with X being an unnamed factor.

Then I got fancy. I added a 90* (which looks pretty cool), Sidewinder/2 Liter reg, put on the Flames of Fury eye cover, and did what I named "Ridgeback Milling".

Enjoy.

I love 90* frames.

While I agree that some other company SHOULD make a cheap gun compared to the ion.

SP hyped the ion so damn much, itr sick.

The 90* frame got me thinking... WDP could also do it. Anything with "Angel" on it, the newbs will eat that up.

WDP doesn't care less about the low end marker

But they do care about profit. And this could be profitable. I still think DYE/Proto is the best canidate.

As long as theres lower priced guns out there, people will still buy the high priced ones to be on top of them. I think the next generation of markers will be low-priced high-ends. And companys like WDP will stay smart and stay where they are so people who want someting better will pick up an Angel.

i like the idea of having a competition gun. I would most likely take the dye gun over the ion, as long as it doesnt have that ugly thing where you can change the body, thats so corny, just paint it yourself or get it in the color you want. But dye should do that, i might even buy it.

The Ion really could use some competition. I'm pretty sick of people saying "My Ion is the best gun there is. I bought tons of ups and I rock!". Now granted, not everyone does this, but the people who do need to be shot.

Even if Dye or some other company made a competitor, I could still see the Ion doing well. I dont think anything dramatic would happen.
