Attemped ramping over bush on bike, video/pics

Ok, Iv been wanting to do this for a while. Theres a curb that ramps up into a bush. Thought I may be able to clear it, hell one day I will.

First attempt, my camera wasnt working. Made it about half way, and the back wheel came up and smashed against my shoulder. It hurt alot. All I have now is a few long thin brusies from "ditchin' the bars" as seen in the video.

Thats it, I can jump pretty high.

My poor Hobo

Video- Click here to watch bikebush

My flaw was I pulsed on the brake right before, and I DIDNT pre-load.

HA. HA. HA. HA.

Nice job, almost had it.

Good job. Now we need a vid of you getting it right!

Very Happy
You Wont See Me

hahaha, i needed that.
Grunt_98c

Cheers & he eats dirt.....lol.
tigman250

HA HA HA that's funny but you may want to stick to paint ball
Smitty

HAHA! You should have someone shooting paintballs at you to make you go faster.
Psyrecx

So if you become pregnant are you going to marry your bike?
sinisterNorth

Laughing lmao

Ewww too much weight on front of bike - not enough speed! Preload what? you have no spring suspension. For the sake of us who find your post useful, next time wear a helmet. That was a good jump for such a low ramp. Your body was there, just the bike wasn't. Try again after they trim the bushes. I hope to see a video of you making it.

may i add SAFELY don't want to see the vid of the ambulance coming THumb down
tarallo

Hehe, I chuckled. Nice try.

Lmao, that's hillarious. You'll need a kicker it looks like. The curb is way too close to the bush and doesn't offer enough of an angle.

Tips:

Pull the bike up into you starting with the front tire then the back tire.

So which hospital will you be attending? Laughing

Ya Im an idiot because I pulsed the brake right before it and didnt have enough speed. From what I know from some ATV racing game, preloading is just leaning into the jump and then lifting up. So thats what I do, suspension would make more sense though.

I was doing this in front of a hospitol too. I never get hurt though, hate helmuts, next time Ill wear my russian helmet though.

To understand preloading, next time your driving your car around speedbumps...

Come at the one in front of you at decent speed, around 10-20 mph. Tap the brake when your front wheels are just before the bump, not enough to stop you or lock them up, just a sharp tap to drop the front of your car down, immediately let off the brake and coast across the bump then accelerate to the next one. It takes a little practice to get the timing right, but if you have a lot of bumps ahead of you, some you will hit better then others. The goal is to not feel the bump.

oh yeah, I call speed humps, bumps.
TriggerHappy1

So the suspension pushing up at the right moment decreases the "bump"? I know they do it in ATV/Motorcross racing, but isnt that so they can get more air? I just shift my weight onto the bump or ramp and then pull up at the last second on my bike. Seems a lot better then just going over it and pulling up.

What you do in the motor vechicles when "preloading" is drop the mass of the front of the vechicle down, to compress the springs in the front suspension, and store kinetic energy until the weight shifts to the back as you move forward and the front of the car is bounced up (or raised up with less "weight" ramped)

When you are jumping a bike what you want to do is lean back going up the ramp to get your front tire up without going over, then at the peak of the jump your weight should be over the bike, and if you have a ramp to land on, weight should then be forward. On bicycles you really have to have a good ramp and pull the bike by the handle bars to keep underneath you, like when you bunnyhop it.
TriggerHappy1

I get now. It seems that I get higher and farther when I shift my weight forward on the ramp then pull up. Maybe Im just getting my body in a "springier" position.

I tried this same thing (my concept of pre-loading) on my quad up the mountains and it seemed that my front was lifting up much more, and by the pics, than it does by just lifting-

Nickodemus

Yes they have very good suspensions for preloading.
Grunt_98c

and trigger goes flying.....lol.

Buddy of mine had a 4-wheeler like that when we were 15. We had a rope hanging from a tree at the bottom of a hill and we would ride our bikes down to it and grab onto the rope. You swing back and forth and your bike keeps going another few yards until the front wheel gets turned.
We tried it with the 4-wheeler. I drove and he stood on the back holding onto my shoulders. He grabbed the rope, swung up 90 deg, then flew off the end of the rope. Too much forward momentum. Landed and broke his arm. His parents were pissed.
RoboCop

HAHA that's what happens when you do something stupid, yet fun, like that.
