FINISHED centerfeed updated 7-7

don't know if this is in the right forum if it's not kick it to where it belongs please

been fooling arround with the idea of making a centerfeed for my 98C got started on it thought you guys might like to tag along

we all know what the stock one looks like

[img=http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/4960/stock6408tn.th.jpg]

here are the new parts

[img=http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/384/new16400af.th.jpg]

[img=http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/6671/parts6404ay.th.jpg]

here's what it'll look like on the gun i know i know it's a mile long i will cut it off probably almost flush with the collar before welding it. i had that piece of stock laying arround so rather than cutting it and have it be too short i just welded the whole thing to the collar

[img=http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/6818/newoneon3so.th.jpg]

please be paitient it may take me a while to finish this i have to work on it when i have time........i'll keep you posted on the progress. also please keep in mind everything looks rough right now it will all get filed and sanded before paint
cdacda13

Cut it down and make it a low rise.

Are you going to weld the feedneck to the bracket? I would assume so.

Also, how are you going to keep it up?
tigman250

yes going to weld it once i get the hole milled in the marker and have my location nailed down

going to use the stock latch on the gun not sure if i'm going to incorperate the stock feed neck "hook" or if i'll make my own.

i still wanted to be able to open and close like the stock one does for ease of field cleaning, that's why i didn't go with the rufas dog.......and i'm cheap as hell Not cool
cdacda13

I was trying myself to figure out a way to make a home made center feed. So Im very interest in this project.

Using the stock latch could be hard.

Have fun and Good luck
Grunt_98c

you could have bought one here. all you would have to do is make the hole....
http://rufusdawg.com/Merchant2/me...=CF-Kit&Category_Code=MAR-ACC
..or make the hole, buy another center feed of you choice and make it fit on your 98c like ekim98 did here...

....or make you own like you did. looks nice, but make it a little shorter.
tigman250

can't open it to field clean though

And being able to do that is why Tippmann's offset hopper to the right is so great. It is a lot more easy with it.
tigman250

EXACTLY that's why i'm so psyco about being able to flip it out of the way

you can always do the quick reciever mod. i don't think that if you get a rufus dawg center feeder or any other feed neck it would make it hard to field clean your gun.
Grunt_98c

you do have a good idea..

...would you mind if i take this photo into my photoshop and mess around with it????. maybe even help you with it.
tigman250

i believe the rufas dog bolts to the left side of the gun. i'm not talking only when you are field stripping the gun it's easier to clean out barrel breaks when your playing if the feedneck and hopper swing out of the way. besides i'm too far into this project to say eh the heck with it i'm goin to buy a rufas dog centerfeed Wink

be my guest i prety much know how i'm gona do it though but knock yourself out
sinisterNorth

Knowing all the stuff you've made in the past tells me you should have no trouble with this. I'd look into the quick reciever mod if you're worried about field stripping. Good luck!
tigman250

gutted it out tonite so i can take it to work tomarrow to bore the hole hopefully have some more pics for you guys tomarrow Very Happy
rossy11223

Cheers! I love pics.
Smitty

Nice. I'd deffinetly cut it down. It's very tall that way.
paintbusta

awsome
hope it works out
tigman250

not too much accomplished today and unfortunatly i don't have alot of time to work on it for the remainder of the day Crying or Very sad

i have the machining done to accept a steel incert for the latch mech. on the feedneck although i doubt you can see it. still kinda tall think i'll cut at least a quarter or half of it away yet.

hopefully have more for you tomarrow
You Wont See Me

Keep up the good work.
cdacda13

kinda rough but has potencial
Smitty

Looks ok, but I know it will look awesome.
TriggerHappy1

Thats some fiiine TIG welding! Looks like its going together good for you.
sinisterNorth

Nice job so far. I'm sure it'll look great when it's finished.
rossy11223

Keep it up. It is going to look great.
Grunt_98c

wasen't happy with it trying to weld it quick when the boss wasen't looking rushed through it lucky it's all going to be filed smoooooth.

just got in from the garage got a little carried away with the milling almost no surface untouched, sorry no time for pics tomarrow going to weld shut the original cocking slot, front velocity hole original feed hole and the warnings. wasen't planning on a total makeover until winter but just couldn't help myself i just hope i can finish it before someone calls up and wants to go paintballing!!!

ah what the heck here ya go

nothing special we have all seen a stripped 98 before and much more milling to come ran out of time this evening.
enjoy
sinisterNorth

So far so good. Are you going to replicate the original paintjob or put something new on it??
tigman250

i'm sure it'll be a flamed theme not sure how or what just yet
TriggerHappy1

I suck at small precise welding (when I tried last). Going to look very unique if you fill in some holes. You should fill in the rear sight rail and then make it flush.
tigman250

i've got ideas for that don't worry i'll come up with something off the wall wait till you see my cocking mech. kinda unique at least i've never seen it before Very Happy
tigman250

all welded

looks nasty huh finished filing down the welds tonight (sorry no pics) tomarrow going to work on centerfeed, i know i know that's the reason for this runaway thread sorry i just got carried away. i want to button up the CF tomarrow to put you guys out of your thread watching mysery. i'll finish the rest of the mods then blast you with the finished product when done.
cdacda13

VERY ROUGH. But, should turn out nice. Keep it up
tigman250

it looks terrible in the pic when you weld to fill a hole you wind up with way more than you need plus when welding aluminum it gets very hot and heat spreads fast with aluminum that's why the paint is baked all over

ps if i don't post for a few days the powdercoat fumes have killed me Laughing
TriggerHappy1

Looks great so far. You should try filling in the space between the "tube" and flat part of the receivers so its a more cosistant "fading" shape. I dont know though, just thinking out loud.

Whats the Tig tecnique for filling in a large hole like that? Im guessing just start from the edges and work your way in.

i've thought about filling it in and puting a radius on it, still concidering it i want it to be very unique but i don't want to just mod... and mod... and mod... i want it to look good too so after i get the center feed done i'm going to slow down and experiment with many difrent types of milling. i welcome all ideas let me know what you think i should mill and what i should fill!!
tigman250

sorry TH1 i forgot to answer your 2nd question last night, yes to fill a hole or slot simply start on the outside and move toward the center you always end up with the weld taller than you would need but the weld pool naturaly wants to build up on itself

THE FINAL UPDATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i finished the centerfeed tonight sory it took so long but of course i had to test it out too!! Ran into a few snags tonite but they will be easily overcome the first was the fact that all the heat generated from the welding process seemed to slightly warp the left gun half, this is already fixed i put it in the vise and tweaked it until it was straight. the secong is i didn't remove enough of the weld on the inside of the left half so i couldn't tighten the screw directly above the grip all the way, this problem led to 1ratic R\T performance, all in all this problem will be easy to fix. lastly i think i know why Rufas Dog makes their centerfeeds bolt on both sides of the marker when you cut the hole in the top it is barely wide enough to feed a ball so i intend to weld some more material on the left half so i can widen the intake for trouble free feeding.

sorry this thread ran off course when i got working on it i couldn't help myself. the next pics you see will hopefully be of a finished product! Cheers

I wouldn't exactly call it free i spent way more hours on it than i should have oh well i had a friggen blast workin on it. as for the finish i thought about all of them but will probably opt for paint it's the cheapest and easiest for me to obtain.
Grunt_98c

make a vid when your done, shooting some paint with it. good job.
jeep 98 custom

Looks pretty good. I too know the hard work it takes to vertfeed a gun, last summer I vert fed my old A-5. Good work.
^Pirate^

I like it.

Nice. I hope you're painting it, though.
tigman250
