Ion problem

Well, I haven't shot my Ion with balls for awhile so i decided to shoot a few. The balls I use are old but still good. They aren't soft and they break like they should from like 5 feet up from the ground. They shoot good because when they do shoot out, they shoot well. They fit through the barrel like they should where you have to blow them out. So here's the problem. After the first shot sometimes without the first shot, balls try to double feed. I don't even have to have my Halo on to have it do this. The balls just roll forward about half a ball and stop on the detents. I am guessing I just need new detents because the ones I have are probably worn out now. The detents are probably worn down enough that they don't stop the ball in time until the ball actually is right on them.
Any other suggestions would help. I have the firebolt, but that shouldn't be causing it to roll forward.

yup, new detents would prolly do it.
i just picked up another ionin a trade w/ firebolt and QEV's, and was curious what you dwell was? how many blinks?
RoboCop

I think it is set at 10-12. I was kinda amazed to already see it at 13 or 12 when you sent it. I played around with it after I got the firebolt so it might be down a dwell or 2. I have the Ion apart right now so I guess I could check, but I am a little busy right now.

I took the detents out and saw how much they are worn down. I am going to see if I can get the delrin detents with springs. Also when feeling inside the chamber, I can barely feel where the detents are.

my ion is at like 6 blinks of the dwell or something. i dunno, doesn't amtter cause i'm sellin it lol. i whore to much.

i am pissed cause the ego deal fell through, but a shocker is getting sent out tomorrow for my pump and a tank =D
RoboCop

I have been thinking of later getting one of the used shocker NXT once there is a used one out or an Evil Shocker. But, I am not sure if I will or wait for the DM6 to go way down in a couple of years. Maybe get a used Etek Ego or regular ego 05 or 06

i was gonna guess your dwells too low. But it might be your detents after reading the thread. I had the same problem when my dwell was really low.
I dont know, try somethin.

wait wait wait
robo, are you saying it cycles, but doesn't shoot then double shoots? or are you saying that the ball rolls forward (doesn't even have to be air)?
RoboCop

I don't have to be cycling the gun to get the ball to roll forward. Once it rolls forward, the gun tries to shoot, but the distance between the ball and the bolt is so far that it doesn't create enough force to shoot the ball forward. Once another ball gets behind it and is sitting right by the bolt, it will then fire correctly besides the point that there are 2 balls in the chamber/barrel.

If you didn't understand that, only read the first sentence. There doesn't have to be air for the ball to roll forward. I know it is the detents after looking at them.

the bolt doesn't need to be close to the ball to shoot it. the bolt would finish pusing it past the detents (so it would then be touching the ball), then once it was past the air gets released, shooting the ball. the whole thing with the ball rolls forward so there isn't enough force to shoot doesn't make to much sense
RoboCop

I'm not sure. It seemed like every time I only had one ball in the gun the ball rolled forward and the gun would let a small amount of air out, but not a full shot, kinda like it was hesitating. During dry firing, the gun shoots flawlessly.

I called my local pro shop and asked about the detents. He said he only carries stock detents. I kinda got mad. I asked him about the delrin detents. He started talking about how the delrins don't retract causing bolt stick. He said he was waiting for spring loaded ones to be made. I told him NDZ made some so he is going to order them in a week or so when he calls up NDZ to have a big order.

Try resetting the board, but first I would think it is your detents.

Well, I decided to dry fire the gun again. Turns out that it didn't want to fully cycle almost every shot. The bolt would be a little short of passing the detents. So I decided to clean the noid and lube the bolt and I tried to clean the reg but was unsuccessful. After cleaning the noid and lubeing the bolt, I put the gun all back together. The gun worked!! It was shooting fully every time. The only problem is that I need new macro because the one I have is a little too short. I went outside and found a tree to shoot at from my back porch. The sun is down and there are 2 lights coming from the porch that are meant to shine out. Well I loaded about 50 balls in the hopper and unloaded. No chops at all and it ripped great. It was the best and fastest (due to the board not being set at its max when I got it) I have ever seen it rip. You could see ball after ball coming right out. Made a nice line of paintballs you could see. I still need new detents none the less, but I am so happy that I know it is working. Also the accuracy was ball on ball with stock barrel. I still wish that Pipe would get in though.

your welcome Laughing

lol. My first time out on the field using the Ion, I was wondering to myself why is the gun shooting so slow. After I finally decided to mess with the board, I realized the ROF was way down, and I mean way down.

I think it was just the bolt needed to be lubed up again after dry firing.

Question.
Will delrin detents swell if some Evil Puss grease touches the detents? That is something I am a little worried about. I am not sure how bad they get, do to the fact they aren't as big as a bolt so I am not sure if they would get themselves stuck inside the detent hole or they wouldn't sweel enough.

they will be fine.

when i shot it for the first time, it actually shot pretty fast and surprised me. then again, i was conserving paint
