You Wont See Me

My grand day

So my camaro has a brakelight out. I pull into the garage to fix it and also check out what I think is an exhaust leak somewhere under the hood. I take the rear end apart, and get the brake light fixed. I then remember I still had my paycheck to cash and decide I'll look at the exhaust when I get back. Problem is, I pull down the driveway and the car stalls. Great. So i push it up the driveway ouf of the street and look under the hood and discover the exhaust manifold is so loose its practically falling off off. Well theres the noise problem. I go get my step dads help and we tighten the screws so its all good. THen I go to start it, the thing wont even turn over now. After a few hours of work its still not running. Theres a spark to the plug, theres compression, theres plenty of gas getting to where it needs to go, all the wires are hooked up correctly, and yet it wont start. The thing wants to start, yet it just doesn't.

Any Ideas?

Get rid of the camaro. I heard those things spend more time getting fixed than being ridden.

Are there any loose ends that got snapped or something.(I'm talking about wires, but I don't see how wires would have been snapped just by something falling off.) Go to a local car shop and have a computer scan the car to see where the problem is.

That sucks. I cant see why it wont is the plug is sparking and gas is getting to where it's needed. You might want to have it looked at professionally.
TriggerHappy1

Is there too much restriction in the exhaust? Perhaps theres some blockage in it causing it to loosen in the first place. Or a carb/injector prob? Not all too sure. Tig knows a good amount, wait for him.

just get yourself some startin fluid....and some duct tape and some wd40...itll fix anuything Laughing

I dont know what the problem might be...maybe you over tighteneed something or when tightening a small piece fell out and you didnt realize it but i doubt it would stop the car from starting....and are you sure the batteries till good.
Ghostslinger

id have taken it to a mechanic after the second try

Turns out I've completely melted some wires from having a 25amp fuse in a 20 amp fuse area. Not sure of the extent of meltage yet.
I put the fuse in while we were working on the car, so I'm not sure if thats what is causing it or not. It was a circuit that ran the horn, rear hatch, cigarette lighter, interior lighting, ect.

Huh! Should be an easy fix. Way smaller problem than I thought.
g36 monkey

yea...shouldnt be too hard.
You Wont See Me

We're still not positive thats the problem, but thats not gonna be an easy fix. That circuit goes all over the car, and isnt just in one area. We're also going to redo the ignition wires.
Justice

Yep, could be electrical or part of your ignition system.

yes wiring is a huge job not only does it affect the areas mentioned above but it may have caused some dammage to wires it was bundled up with.....not a good thing. if it becomes too big a problem i would look into a new wiring harness from http://www.painlesswiring.com/index.asp wiring problems are no joke especially when you know you have damaged wires. a fire is the last thing you want on the expressway going 80 mph! a friend of mine installed his own "custom" stereo system in his car...long story short he went in the ditch because the fire filled the passenger compartment full of smoke in seconds, he didn't have time to stop!! he made it out just in time to watch his car burn!!

good luck YWSM, if it's getting spark gas and air it should run??? unless the computer is messed up.....ouch. i got my fingers crossed for you pal!

Tig you rebel. You need to make a thread of all of your uber awesome stories. If you ever make a book, but the author's name as tigman, and we'll all know it's you.

You see that episode of Mythbusters where they used a bullet as a fuse?

Major cool.

Anywho.... cars suck, because I tend to crash em'. Good luck with yours, mang.

Well we got it running again tonight. The engine was flooded with fuel, and after taking all out the spark plugs and some wire, and tried to start it, it flushed out all the gas. After that it was a matter of buying some new sparkplugs and the thing runs again. We're going to try(keyword there) to repair the wire problems this weekend.
tigman250

glad to hear things are looking up for you YWSM!
You Wont See Me

I'm just happy we were able to fix it wihtout taking it into a shop. Total cost of the repair was about $10 for some new spark plugs and thats it.

We're going to take the car to the garage that fixed my exhaust manifold over the weekend so they can tighten it again, since they apparently didn't do it good enough the first time.

My brother had an RX-8 before he got hit by a moving truck and it totaled it. Mazda's are generally on the low side with torque but are pretty decent little speedsters.
RoboCop

I want an RX-8 but it has terrrible gas mileage and it is too small for me. Maybe if they come out with RX-9, I could get that. I know someone that used to have the RX-7 but sold it to get a bigger car because she got a family. I would have wanted to keep it because of the technology put into it.
