my upcoming project

i get horribly bored during the summer, so i wanted to do a project, but i never had the money until now. heres what i am going to do.

I bought a psycho ballistics superbolt frame Firstcall paintball for 90 bucks. since I love pumps, and think they are awsome, i am going to make a tiny pump cocker. For this project, i am going to halfblock and midget the cocker (it is already mini'd). The only tools i have is a dremel, a hacksaw, and metal files. I am thinking about using a hack saw to do rough cuts, then a dremel to take off more metal, then the files to even everything out, and get it nice and smooth. any other suggestions? Also, i need to buy some taps and dies (sp?) so i can rethread the pump arm, thread my back block, and make the IVG threads deeper.

So yeah, it should be a fun porject, and probably won't take to long, seeing as i finished that speed in 4 hours, and was very please with the outcome.

Any suggestions on machining or different things to do with the body would be appreciated.

Be careful tapping. Make sure the threads are straight down when you tap it.

ditch the dremmel, do the rough cuts with the hack saw and fine tune them with the file. it's amazing how fast you can remove aluminum with a file.

so do you think i should give myself like 1/4" leeway with the hacksaw, then file all that down? thats what it said on this one website for halfblocking (but using a mill), but i trust you more than joshgrrr

Pics to see what you have and what you are doing?

1/4" is way too much, it will take a month to file off that much. just cut it as close as possible without damaging the area you don't want cut and clean it up with the files. that's the great part of using hand tools, you can go slow and do an awesome job.

have done nothing, the gun is one the way lol.

tig, is there a type of metal file that i should look for that will be best?
redneckdeerhunter

Yeah, i think you're going to want a bastard file.
abr5

a bastard file... hm...
that should work
tigman250

double cut bastard for roughing and a single cut for finishing
abr5

lol, didn't realize there really was a bastard file till i did research lol.

i am having a hard time finding some. care to show me some links of what i want to get?
tigman250

any hardware store will have them
abr5

ok, i will go to home depot tomorrow and ask.

so i realized i am HORRIBLE, and i mean HORRIBLE at using a hack saw. it is quite pathetic. i decided i was going to use a dremel, and use a cutting wheel and leave my self lots of room so i can use a file for the rest.

I have one question though. When you midget a body, you are supposed to extend the IVG threads. Is it hard to extend threads with a tap? i heard from people that have done numerous midgetizings of cockers that it is easier to extend threads, then cut.

very interesting project. wish i were organized enough to start one. gah i gotta get out and play soon.

so i finished the halfblocking today, and it looks really nice. pics will be up shortly.
i can't seem to make a back block. i tried to take the original back block, but that didn't work. i will take a look at my other halfied cocker to see if i can get anyideas on how to make a back block.

btw tig, thanks for the advice. i used a file, and a hacksaw, and it came out amazing.
abr5

gun midgetted (though it isn't even with the fram yet, i have to extend the threads first), grip frame milled, and i cut more off the front. i will try to get pics
abr5

still no pics (working on getting batteries) but i weighed it today. it had a front block (no pneumatics), vertical ASA, internals (no bolt, backblock, pull pin), grips, and all te other standard stuff except a reg, and a normal ASA. it only weighed 1 lb 2oz.

i also milled down a black magic reg to make it lighter. still gotta do some finishing to that
