I'm planning on painting my Ion a metallic black with a metallic blue fade. I heard using acetone on the Ion's paint job lets you rub off the paint, so I might try that. If that doesn't work, I'll just sand it off.

When starting to paint it, should I use a primer? What kind of primer? Then what kind of paint should I use that will withstand a beating from normal play?

Thanks for any help.

EDIT: Just to be clear, I am talking about the frame and not the body.

what is the frame made out of? Aluminum or Plastic?

EDIT-if it's aluminum look HERE

Ya it's alluminum. I didn't know you had one of those stickied. I guess it's been a long time.

I'm going to go ahead and use acetone on it to remove all the paint. It saves alot of time from sanding and won't harm the metal and will come out better.

So I should use dupli color paint? Do you think they sell that at Lowes or Home Depot?

I'm sure they sell it there. Most hardware stores should have it. I'd also clear coat it. I did that on my 98c and it seems really durable. It also have it a nice gloss finish (you can get a non-gloss clear coat too as far as that goes).

I checked the duplicolor website and it looks like I have to go to a place like AutoZone, Oreilly Pepboys, or Walmart. I'll probably do a clear coat so everything is smooth.

How would I go about doing a fade? I heard you start with the lighter color first and color the whole thing, then you take the darker color and go across the surface but lift the can away the farther down the surface you go?
You Wont See Me

Tippmann had a great sticky up on it, I'd check there.

Their sticky basically only covers those that want to do a camo job. I have the paint and primer and top coat. Going to start with the primer tomorrow. The gun is all ready to be painted. I will experiment a little with the paint before I start any fading though.
