propane powered Tippmann!?!?

You may have heard the rumours about it, but it seems like it is true.

redneckdeerhunter

wow that is awesome i wonder how much it is
RoboCop

Boom!!!! Where did Jimmy go?
Glassjaw

So, what's wrong with HPA?
tarallo

Paintball has just become an environmental threat.
HS

"Available now"?
TriggerHappy1

Any "pollution" would be no differant than your grill, except less. I see it as a bad idea, particularly for a new-player directed company. Someone will put it together wrong or not seal the line right and itll leak, then become a very potentialy dangerous thing. Although there are many many benefits, it can be potentialy very dangerous.

Way expensive.
TriggerHappy1

It claims to be able to get 50,000 shots off a tank. Thats a lot. Those tanks are cheap as hell too. I wonder what would happen if you sucked up liquid propane, because it is in liquid form. Similar spikes and such like co2?
Justice

BOOM! Well that's another kid dead from an exploding paintball marker. I like the concept but not fond of the propane.

I agree with Tarallo. Air is FREE!! Well you know before you need to compress it to use. After that your paying for the cost of the compressor, storage tanks, lines, fill station(s) and so forth, thats why it cost one whole dollar per 1000psi to fill your tank at most places.

Is Tippmann trying to "kill" paintball? Wait to the freakin lawers hear of this not to mention the local PTA.

If you compress it greatly it is very consistant/more powerful....well I can't think of the right word..damn.
redneckdeerhunter

i wonder how long it will take for all the proshops to get the propane
TriggerHappy1

Yes but its in liquid form, not compressed. Just like co2.

Liquid Propane pressures-
Vapor Pressure at 0F 28 PSI
Vapor Pressure at 70 F 122 PSI
Vapor Pressure at 100 F 190 PSI

A lot lower pressure than co2 which is why the tanks are so thin. But I doubt pressure even matters since it is ignited within the gun. But what if liquid propane is siphoned? More fuel in the ignition chamber, right?
Roll Tide

Is this not going to classify it as a firearm. Combustion is taking place... Will this tighten laws on underage citizens getting their hands on it? Will a license be necessary? How will people look at paintball now that the guns are usuing combustion as the propellant? Tippmann might've opened a can of worms....

"THESE CHILDREN'S GUNS ARE USING COMBUSTION TO FIRE THE PAINTBALL... THIS GAME IS DANGEROUS ENOUGH AS IT IS! BAN IT!"
Betterdays

Here's the lowdown on the C3:

"Yep its confirmed from four different sources including a member of tippmanns national headquarters R&D.

The tippmann "C3" an experimental pump action marker that runs off of Propane.

This marker is not to be sold as of now and is just part of tippmanns alternate power source research.

The marker barrel heats up after heavy fire [its a pump so no 30bps for this]. It also gets very good efficiency.

No plans to release this item to the general public are being made, but at this point further "testing and development" of this product are still an option. Further research into this project is still to be decided. HOWEVER if they were to release it [insert one of those tricky corporate "maybe we will....maybe we wont" here] it would retail at around $200 USD. One tippmann rep let this go to some people at a field that it was tested at.

"It is pump only because when you pull the pump back it lets propane into a combusting chamber then when the pump returns it closes the chamber and the trigger pull ignites the propane causing the ball to fire (not sure if its the air force or the bolt that pushes the ball) The guy said it has a safety feature that only allows a trigger pull if the guns pump is back in the closed position to stop the combustion from blowing the tank. He also said the gun gets kind of warm after about 25 shots. Lastly the thing can get around 10,000 (!!!) shots per tank, and that's only a rough guess. When it comes out you can expect even more shots per tank."

It seems they are showing the "C3" off as a alternative to CO2 [for people that CO2 is hard to come by] and as a teaser for some new items they are working on. APPARENTLY they are working on a semi-auto/mech and a semi-auto/electro that uses the same power source...hmmm....interesting. So they are looking to make paintball even more easily accessible by using alternate sources of "fuel". It seems the main target of the "C3" is the folks without access to CO2....some talk of the New Zealand area and other overseas areas that don't have the quick access to CO2...perhaps tippmann is making a move on becoming a large global force in paintball...however with the current oil/gas trends one has to wonder if they are setting themselves up for a problem, but with the prospected efficiency per tank 10k+ shots one cant help but think that this may be a big trend."

I say we kill all soccer moms. OH, and we can't leave out the people who think "paintball encourages war"....go shove it.
Nickodemus

If I buy a pump, that will be it! For $229 you get a low-pressure, extremely consitant marker, with a decent barrel and 50,000 shots per 16oz tank! I want to see one first, if it lives up to its ad.
abr5

sounds pretty dangerous... with inginiting propane and stuff
Nickodemus

Hank Hill would be proud! I wouldn't think it is any more dangerous then other compressed gas in a tank. Sure it is a fuel and not inert like HPA or Nitrogen, but if it functions properly and doesn't leak you should be OK. If you puncture the tank your in trouble, but that is the same for any compressed gas. Imagine the smell of the indicator they put in propane on the field if a ton of these were firing. I wonder if they will make a semi auto? Throw a cyclone on that puppy and Tippmann could really be on to something all mechanical for the bumpkin woodsballer. Great to take camping... Remote trips to places without fill stations were you need Propane tanks anyway for cooking/heating/light ect.
Nickodemus

You all are for sure it ignites the propane?
Roll Tide

Alright, I've done a little more research. My opinion is now that I am actually considering buying one. I've been wanting to pick up a pump for a while now, and this might be the one. 50,000 shots is flat out nuts. $3-$8 for a canister! Maybe paintball isn't going to get more expensive. So pump-world, here I come.
redneckdeerhunter

took the words right out of my mouth ^^^^
tigman250

i can assure you if they do sell them i'll be one of the first to purchase one! i think it's awesome, and tippmann wouldn't sell somethhing unsafe.....would they?

Manual has this in it:

g36 monkey

^ Well, those things are just in the artwork now anyways Laughing

Just like you said demus, Hank Hill would be proud, its part of Propane and Propane accesories.
I told my dad about it but he thinks im fine with just one gun, so I couldnt get one till I move out, I told my friends and they asked why I was even lookin at a pump, they think Im too triggerhappy for one. I think I could do it if I was sniping and the 50000 shots is amazing. I have probably 10 of those tanks in my garage (camp stove, torch, hot plate dohickey thingy, extras)
I could have lots of fun in my backyard. Definately something I will be waiting for, by the way does anybody have a guess to where they derived the name? My guess (learned this from King of the Hill) is the molecule thing....C3 H8, (3 carbon atoms 8 Hydrogen atoms) Just my guess. Cool
Grunt_98c

there is a video of it in action on tippmann.com....i still would not get it...

redneckdeerhunter

so can you fill this thing up from a regular propane tank at like a hardware store?
g36 monkey

I think you just buy a new tank when it runs out. I wonder, if when you run out of air, if the propane tanks fart Very Happy
I still think it would be great, and thanks for that link, that video was pretty cool and there was alot of info.
HS

Actionvillage has them in stock.

For sale.

I am amazed beyond belief that Tippmann is willing to sell those things.
g36 monkey

He he he tig, get your $229.95 ready and go get yourself a new pump. Though i wouldnt trust you to tinker with this one, may be kinda dangerous aaargh
I didnt think they would have it out already. Too bad my dad wont let me get it, my crossfire tank would defiitely be put on hold. Laughing

i am seriously concidering buying one, although $230 is way much for a pump?????????
cdacda13

After looking at it more, Im suprized that tippmann didn't find a way to put a flatline on there.
g36 monkey

I was thinkin the same thing, wondered if they were gonna have new barrels and stuff for it.

by the way tig, its over $100 from action village so free shipping Thumbs up

that's one of the first mods i was thinking of, although thet were talking about how hot the barrel got, mabey the heat would expand the flatline rendering it unaccurate?
TriggerHappy1

According to one add i saw, it said "Composite Barrel." Aka PLASTIC.

Nods.
tigman250

i was talking about modding the 98C flatline to fit it MUHAHAHA
TriggerHappy1

We have uncovered tigs evil plan!!!

Good luck with that, it will be another true accomplishment if you suceed! I know alignment, and just modding the damn adapter to fit comfortably would be pretty hard. Good luck if you go for it!
tigman250

meh i still have to spend $230 don't know if it's worth it!! i mean i already have 2 pumps, what the hell do i need another for?
g36 monkey

this is the screwing around pump tig. Its propane Very Happy
And so you can give us all a review on it Laughing
tigman250

i know....you can all send me $10 and i'll cover the rest this can be your "review payment". i would like to have one but $230 Shocked that's a little spendy for a pump, mabey the price will come down a bit. hell you can buy a 98C for $130 and you really have something! this is a pump!

It will save you tons on testing because of the PEP.
g36 monkey

if there were 23 people on here who actually would send you money, it would be a good idea Laughing
I guess you cam wait a while for prices to drop.
tarallo

CCM sells an uber-sick cocker pump coversion for the same price.

BTW, when I get the cash I'm probably going to pump my cocker.
RoboCop

Is there anything such as a composite metal? because it seems they would have the barrel medal, but have one that can only warp and such from extremely high temperatures.
