Tippmann Breaking Paint

I have a tippmann 98 custom that i just brought out of winter storage everything on the gun is fine but it won't stop breaking paint it breaks like 3 out of every 100. And I know thats not good, so i took it all apart and lubricated everything, and it still broke paint. The smart parts teardrop barrel is fine and the gun broke paint even at slow rates of fire. I just purchased the Cyclone Feed System for it but i haven't installed it yet if anybody has any idea why my gun might be breaking paint please let me know. Thanks

What kind of paint are you using??
PapaSquat

Im using Draxxus Gold Paint

the paint to barrel match it good right?
wats ur velocity?
PapaSquat

i haven't chronoed my gun in a while mostly cause my friends love rec ball in my woodsy backyard but i would make a guess around 280 fps but increasing and decreasing velocity didnt seem to matter that much with my tests....the worst part about this is the fact that the 12" teardrop barrel i use gets some of the worlds worst accuracy once it gets paint in it. Even after u squeegee the darn thing it has issues....

1. take apart your gun and check your manual if everything is there and in the right place.
2. lube up your gun and put back together...
3. before i forget make sure all the parts look ok...back bolt, front bolt, o-rings, springs and everything else..
4. then put back together...
5. i would check your paint before you shoot it..
6. check your velocity...if your over 300fps you will get chops...
7. take it to your local store if still not right..

...what ups do you have to your 98c??? you may just be out shooting your hopper...meaning new hopper(12v revy)...that all i can think of right now...

i think Draxxus Gold is good paint how old is it? i once had a gun that had a fairly small bore stock barrel and it would break paint like a mother b\c the paint was too tight in the barrel! or if it was even a little bit out of round it would break paint, where others with a slightly bigger bore could shoot the paint fine. chances are if you are pulling it out for the first time you are shooting old paint too and that will not only kill accuracy but it will break like crazy too. even if it isn't old paint i would try another brand to see if it helps, don't buy a box of paint to try just bum a handfull off of a chum and try it.

Good Luck and keep us posted

How old is the paint? It kinda sounds like the paint is the problem because Tippys generally dont have problems like that, at least all the ones I've worked with around here.

yea, the only tippy i've seen with breakage problems was a a-5 with flatline. solution, new barrel
PapaSquat

The paint was actually brand new. And the paint is a good size...it fit perfectly in the barrel. I'm gonna polish the internals, put a new drive spring on it, lube it up, and put the Cyclone Feed System on it today to see if that stops the chop. Please leave more ideas so that if that doesnt work I can try some other things.

What annoys me is how my local paintball store (Pev's, which is a really good store) only sells Draxxus paint.

Oh and if you guys have any upgrade suggestions (that are worth the money) to go on-top of my Tippmann 98c with double trigger, 12" teardrop barrel, and Cyclone Feed System, please let me know.

sounds like a plan....i dont know mch aboput how to stop a tippmann chopping...i aint never seen one do it Thinking

about the upgrades:
possibly an r-t or ebolt....you dont need these but to lay down some mmph its always helpful. Rambo
redneckdeerhunter

I would definatly reccomend the R/T but for it to work with the cyclone feed you have to buy a adapter kit so that they will both work with the same power tube.

i duno what the chops could be from. just to be sure, stick a paintball in ur barrel, and blow in the end of it, and see how easily it comes out. if it is extremely hard then u will probably have barrel breaks

also, where is the ball breaking?

Sound it out. He is pretty much talking about firepower and stuff like that. It does not stand for anything like bps.

Ha ha....made me laugh....like youre talkin to a kindergardener, and its not an acronym its a sound effect sort of thing Laughing sorry if anyone got confused.

I'd reccomend an RT and maybe a JJ Ceramic or LAPCO Bigshot rather then the Teardrop. I've never liked SP barrels except for the Freak and AA.
PapaSquat

What length of barrel would you get? How much are JJ ceramic barrels?
Grunt_98c

12 to 14inch is the best....lapco or CP is the best...both under $45...get a new hopper to...12v revy should be good or a apache.....and double trigger...before i forget to...X-chamber or a reg would be good to..
