Tired of the Deadness

So i thought i would make a new post.

I got a new truck
just a little 1995 chevy s10 4 cylinder with a 5 speed.

ill put pics up once im done fixing it.
the engine blew up once we got it.
so i had to buy a new one.

so full engine rebuild is going on now.

it should be done by tuesday
hopefully.
Cool
You Wont See Me

Nice.
RoboCop

You should drop a bigger engine into that. Would be sweet for a sleeper.
Smitty

I'd personally drop in a V8, but then again I'd personally never buy an S-10.  If it's 4WD it might be alright.  Then lift it a little (2-3").  What I don't get is, you said that the engine blew up so you got a new one.  Then you said that a "rebuild" is going on?  Why would you buy a new motor if you rebuilt the old one?  Thinking
g36 monkey

rebuilding everything underneath the hood
we didnt buy a crate motor, just a long block
therefore it doesnt come with valve cover, timing belt cover, or any of that other good stuff.

i had access to a 350 to drop in it at my uncles house, with a racing transmission
but my dad said no, and with the nice little 2.2 i get about 30 to the gallon haha
i like that.

and no its not 4 wheel drive either, but nothin around here i need it for
so thats fine

Well I've got a buddy dropping a 350 into an S10 and it's a royal pain.  It barely fits, and requires a little modification/fabrication.  Hopefully YOU are doing some of the work yourself, if not all of it.  It's a great trade to pick up.  And, if you're going to have a truck, you better use it like a truck.  Hopefully you haul stuff, or take it off-roading.  I hate it when people buy trucks just for the status.

Oh and when I say it's a good trade to pick up:
The tranny went out of my truck a while back, and I'm currently swapping it with a fairly fresh one.  It saved me about $800 or so if you count all of the parts I got off the parts truck (I'm swapping out the axles sometime this summer too).  They wanted $1400 to rebuild the old one, and I got the truck for $500.  So, after getting a new Torque Converter and replacing the input shaft, I saved a ton of money.
g36 monkey

yea
me and my dad are doing it all ourselves
well my friend is helping a little too

its a learning experience
but i already know a whole lot more than i did

and i wanted a truck to haul stuff with
haha
though it cant haul much, it will get stuff every now and then
im puttin bed liner in soon
and a tool box

nowhere to off road around here really
and its 2wd
dont feel like gettin stuck if i did haha

and you will probably hate me for this smitty, but i personaly like dropped trucks haha.  my friend has one that is sweet.  but he has done all the work himself, thats another reason i like it so much.

Shocked I should ban you right now...
RoboCop

It all depends how much you drop a truck. If you are doing it to fill up the wheel wells a little more, then good. But if you drop it enough where you are tucking the tires underneath the wells, then bad.
g36 monkey

i love dragging the bumper haha

with like the bagged suspension and stuff
idk why i like it
but you can always raise it back up to stock height anyways, so it doesnt reallly matter.

if its bagged
if you just chop your suspension, thats the cheap and stupid way.
typically the more expensive route is better.
like suspension lifts over body lifts.

Yeah but body lifts work fine for a cheap, little lift.  A 2-3" body lift is a great way to save money.  They're only around $100.
You Wont See Me

I'm not a truck person at all
g36 monkey

what kind of person are you?

I've always saw Mustangs as girly cars.  I'm more of a Bowtie guy myself.  I'll have to post pics of the truck when it's all done.  I've still got a ton to do to it, and it might not be until after summer that it gets done.  Swapping axles, toolbox, tranny, ect...

Yeah thats me
g36 monkey

^ Thats what i thought

i almost got a firebird
but it was v-6 automatic

not a real firebird lol
RoboCop

I see many mustangs as girl cars. The 350z is losing it's manliness also because rich parents are buying them for their daughters. Just so many girls driving mustangs now.
g36 monkey

haha
yea thats happening with the z
and the lady down the street got one

and she is terible at driving
especially because its stick lol
she cant fit between like huge gaps.

its quite entertaining to watch.  and the v6 mustangs i see as girl cars.  but you cant really call a gt that.

A Mustang GT is still a girly car.................watch me... Wink
g36 monkey

your a jerk haha

i never knew 300 horsepower to be girly
RoboCop

The new 350z puts out like 306hp or something like that, and you said it was girly.
Smitty

g36 monkey wrote:

300hp in a girly car...no thanks...
g36 monkey

the driver can make a car girly
but the 350z boasts 300 and only puts out 230 to the ground.

mustang says 300 and puts 275 to the ground.

but with the new engine its even more, thats going off of the 05.

i think its loaded with testosterone, i dont see girly at all when i think of a mustang gt, or roush mustang, or shelby.

the v6 maybe.
Smitty

Mustangs are girly...Get over it already.  They've got a girly body style, the v6 cars aren't quick by any stretch of the imagination, and a ton of girls drive Mustangs.  You can't win this one...
g36 monkey

i see loads of masculinity in the mustang personally

i dont see girly at all
Smitty

g36 monkey wrote:

Alright...  You have your beliefs and I have mine...
cdacda13

Monkey- First off, congrats on the buy. I hope you don't live in an area that snows because a 2wd S10 sucks in the snow. A 350 swap would be nice, but with fuel prices, I understand sticking with the little engine.
Next, all your long posts read like poems with a single sentence then another sentence right under it. Very Shakespearean.
Third, My first car was a v6 Firdbird automatic. Great car, had 185k on the clock when I sold it. (For more then twice what I bought it for) I learned a lot on that car. Easily the perfect first car to learn on.
Lastly, Mustangs are more girl cars. I know more girls that own late model mustangs (Post fox body style) then I know guys.
RoboCop

lol.
I think this model mustang is the girliest of all.
You Wont See Me

I've never thought of a mustang as womanly before, but that that its been mentioned there are tons more girls driving them than guys.
g36 monkey

it all depends on who is driving the car to make it girly.  and how the car is, like the one robo thinks is most girly, is one of my favorites
an 03 mach 1 mustang is pretty much my dream car.

cda, i hope my "poetic" way of typing doesnt bother you  Laughing
i live in the heart of florida, no snow.  and the main reason i didnt get that fire bird was my dad said no  Laughing
g36 monkey

i took it to the shop a few days ago to get the a/c done and have the clutch looked at.
i got it back today, it drove like a dream.

went to church, we went out to dinner (with church, celebrating last day of school)

they drove me back to the church so i could pick up my truck.
i no more than got out of the church parking lot, didnt even get up to the 45mph speed limit, and some guy just pulled out in front of me.

he didnt have his license, just a learning permit.
i had nowhere to go because there were cars on the other side of me.

sucks.
hopefully i can get it fixed or get something else.
g36 monkey

It's called insurance.  That sucks though.  My dad had a story kind of like that.  He re-did an old Dodge Power Ram pickup with all new motor (383), new body and paint, and he was just pulling out of the exhaust shop when someone ran a stop sign and hit it.  That sucks though g36...
g36 monkey

im not sure if he has good insurance or not.
i believe they are coming out tonight to check it out though.

i really hope its not totaled out after spening like 3 grand on it to fix it plus 1600 for the truck itself  THumb down
cdacda13

show the insurance guy the receipts  for the work. They then have to pay you back for the work if they total it.
Psyrecx

I wanna get a mazda mx-3 myself. or atleast something other than a bike...
g36 monkey

people will probably laugh at you for the mazda
but i know from personal experience, you will be able to outhandle like everyone.

good to see you on again too psy

o and cda, they are only adding like $600 to the value even with all the receipts and such.  we are figthing them haha,.
P8ntBallKing10

What's up with all of you guys getting new cars :p
