What's the latest CD you got?/reviews

So, everyone buys or burns CDs once in a while, just thought I'd see about you all...

I just got a burnt copy of Cold's new album, "A Different Kind of Pain". I have listened to it almost everyday..I cant get enough. All the songs are pretty deep and lately I've been able to relate in ways to it.

Yesterday, I bought Taproot's new album, "Blue-Sky Research". It's decent, but I wasn't too impressed. I was hoping for something a little better after hearing their latest, "Calling".
redneckdeerhunter

system of a down:mezmerize, its a really good cd i like almost all the songs and stuff
Roll Tide

Last CD I bought was Stand Up by Dave Matthews Band. I love Dave Matthews so naturally I think it's kick ass. Louisiana Bayou is an awesome song.
Glassjaw

Alice In Chains: Greatest Hits.

That or Windows PE from my neighbor.
cdacda13

90% of my CD collection is burned.

I just got, (from a friend) Tupacs new album. Loyal to the game. ALmost every song produced by eminem. And he does a shitty job of it.

You're not the first person I've heard say that. A guy in the music store said the same thing. He said he was pretty big into Tupac and other rappers I cant remember... Thinking

Great CD. Burned from sister.

Last one I bought was Coldplay, X&Y. It's different from their other stuff that they did, but once you get used to it, it's really good. But still, A Rush Of Blood To The Head > X&Y.

Another recent buy of mine is The Snake The Cross The Crown, Mander Salis. I doubt anyone has heard of them. Think Oasis' good songs + a little Coldplay + Other indie-type stuff = incredible. And for the record, indie no = emo. It's awesome.

And I've been listening to me play my new saxophone.
g36 monkey

Well i havent really bought cd's but i just found my sisters comp (it has all the music) can burn cd's. SO i figured out how to bring her music over here. SOme of the bands i got were the used, the postal serivice, motion city soundtrack, fellsmere (nobody will know them, my sisters friends band...they just went on tour Laughing ) and it has the killers but i really dont listen to those songs. I also put ACDC BAck in Black Laughing gotta love the acdc
Glassjaw

Motion City Soundtrack is freaking horrible. The singer is t3h gey and like whispers into the mic.
rossy11223

I have an ipod and no longer care to buy cds.

well a bunch of hot girls at my school like em so i have to listen to the music to know what they are talkin about so i can strike up conversations and then move to better things Laughing
TriggerHappy1

Last cd I downloaded and burned was Pink Floyd The Division Bell. Iv heard bits of it before though. Sucks compared to any of the albums made by the complete band. Some really great guitar solos and songs to it, but just as many boring crappy songs. 6/10

Right now Im downloading a very rare Pink Floyd album, The Man and the Journey. Just a live recording from Amsterdam 1969, lots of stuff that wasnt realeased at the time, or later inspired something. Very cool.
Roll Tide

The only band I really like in live recordings back in the 60s-70s is the Grateful Dead. Pink Floyd doesn't really do much for me. Whatever floats your boat.
g36 monkey

yeah, live recordings sound so weird after youve listened to them so much on the radio cd's etc. then you have all this background noise and you say "WOAH!" Except for metallica, they sound the same eithe rway Laughing

I bet you like Phish then.

I also got a live recording of Trey Anastasio and Matisyahu, a concert I went to over the summer. It was great, Matisyahu is incredible live.

Damn I completely forgot about Phish. My sister loves them... went to all of their concerts until they stopped touring recently.
g36 monkey

(heres the part where i sound like a nerd) ive never been to concert, though im planning on going annd seeing motion city soundtrack with this incredibly hot girl in like all my classes. Im not gonna post her online because that is simply degrading. Cool Shocked Tounge
TriggerHappy1

Meh Iv never been to a concert and dont expect to unless some gives me a ticket and my friends go.

My old band teacher has been to 20 Phish concerts, and his friend has been to 80. No joke.

If you don't listen to them, I suggest you do. Trey was the lead singer for Phish, he's already got some solo stuff out.

Check out Matisyahu too. Reggae.
sinisterNorth

I've never been to a concert before either, but this October, I'm going to see U2. I'm not a huge fan of them, but I got fre tickets and am going with some friends.
TriggerHappy1

PBS was just showing an "Aussie Pink Floyd" concert. Its a bunch of Ausrailian guys who play Pink Floyd music. Was pretty awsome (except bass, drums, and keyboard sucked..). If you contricute $160 to PBS you get two up front tickets to their next show Nov 30th in Philly. Good deal? or should I just buy tickets regularly? REALLY want to go.
sinisterNorth

How much would it cost regularly to get up front?
redneckdeerhunter

i gots teh hook ups when it comes to concerts i can get front row tickets for FREE yes FREE ive been to many cancerts but never a phish concert i heard they broke up Confused

They did, I think. And can you please stop typing in internet language? "Teh" is only used in comedy these days.

Yeah, they broke up, but they are are doing solo stuff now. Trey Anastasio has his own band (70 Volt Parade) and I might go to a concert with the old bassist for them.
tigman250

CD.... what's a CD? ha ha when i was you guys age i was listening to cassettes. haven't bought a new CD in years though. i have a cd changer amp and woofers behind the seat in my pickup but never use them anymore! just listen to the radio now. \shakes fist over head\ you young wipper snappers
g36 monkey

...cassette, whats a cassette Laughing yep, i burned three d's but they have alot of the same stuf fon them. Cant go wrong with back in black though Cool
TriggerHappy1

I listen to records as much as cds. Hate cassettes a lot, havnt listened to one since like 1997.
g36 monkey

I havent listened to a cassette in a while either, the only one i ever really used was the space jam one. I liked the songs on there. Laughing We use our record player every now ad again, our 45 player is broken, but we have 2 regular turn tables, my parents wont let me dj with them though, they are actually worth something without the needle being broken. Darn, i wanted to make the *wicky wicky wicky* sound. Laughing
TriggerHappy1

Yeah, using a record player (phonograph proper name?) the way its not made to be used isnt good. I spun the record backward to hear a secret message in a song, which was there, and we had to replace the needle.
g36 monkey

Laughing its sounds like pwer rangers or something. "the secret message" bum bum bum!!!! Laughing
what song was it?
TriggerHappy1

Pink Floyd The Wall- Empty Spaces (only studio version, not in original or movie).

The message is "Congratulations. you have just discovered the secret message. Please send your answer to "Old Pink" care of the funny farm. "(differant voice)....Margret's on the phone!"" I have the backwards message on my computer. Ill host it for yall when I get time.
g36 monkey

Wow...that is kind of interesting. Dont you have a rewind feature on your "phonograph", then it plays it in reqind, on ours you can control the speed of the rewind too. Maybe thats just our good one, havent taken out the second one in ages.
TriggerHappy1

Hear the secret message wooooo- http://media.putfile.com/Empty-Spaces-Backwards9

On the record player i just turned it off and manualy spun it. Its not loud but you can hear it if your right up to it.
tarallo

That's pretty sick. I know there was a site with a bunch of those, one being Stairway to Heaven played backwards.
TriggerHappy1

Stairway to Heaven "demonic message" is BS.

The one I posted was done delibleratly (obviously) at the start of the song. The album "Darkside of the Moon" has hard to hear messages, not backwards, in almost every song, which are all recordings from when the band got drunk one night.
tarallo

What's the thing if you start "The Wizard of Oz" at some part during "Darkside" it will line up with it or something like that?
TriggerHappy1

Yup, start the album at the third lion's roar and it sycronicies very nicly. Iv done it, it matches up almost perfectly. Also playing Animals, then Meddle or The Wall after the Darkside ends is very neat too. Or Wish you Were Here after Darkside. Havnt tried these but want to now!

The same works for The Yellow Submarine and Darkside.

Theres also a few more synchronicities with their music. More here.
tarallo

How does it synchronize, I still don't really get it.
g36 monkey

Im just as lost as you HS, i know disney movies apparently have some naughty naughies hidden in them. everybody knows about th elion king thing, but i aint never seen it. And apparently in some part on alladin if you have it up loud enough, alladin says f**k me Surprised
sinisterNorth

Yeah, there's a lot of garbage in Disney movies. I've only seen one..I think it was in Poccahantus.
TriggerHappy1

Doesnt the one kid in Harry Potter say "I have erections." or something? Thought I heard that somewhere. Dont really know what your talking about with Diseny movies...
sinisterNorth

In The Little Mermaid, I believe one of the spires on the castle is a male body part....There's aslo stuff in Aladin abou how its ok for girls to take their clothes off. There's some other stuff in The Lion King, but I cant remember.
redneckdeerhunter

oh and in the wizerd of oz there is supposeivly a little midget thing bein hung
tigman250

in one of the disney movies the clouds spell out the word sex....don't rember wich one though?
TriggerHappy1

The "midget being hung" from the Wizard of Oz is totaly fake. I researched this thing a lot. What your seeing is a crane (as in a bird) in the backround dipping its head to the ground as the scene fades into another one. Thats all it is.

I bet you cant get enough of watching Disney movies with your daughter tig.... Sounds like fun!
g36 monkey

its on lion king when the volcano is smoking that it spells sex. I havent seen it but its the one everybody knows about. we should start a topic about this instead of hijacking this thread though Laughing
redneckdeerhunter

i just went and got a metallica cd its really awesome

My latest is "The Ugly Organ" by Cursive. The lyrics are a little "emo", but the vocalists voice isn't whiney and gay. I've been enjoying it imensley. I'd recomend it to anyone that likes good music.
TriggerHappy1

^Thats why I hate modern music, that gay whiney voice. All artists try too hard to sing instead of just speaking uniformly. Tell me a good song to download, Ill try it.
Trogdor

Try "Art is Hard". It's actually got really good lyrics and a nice beat.
Glassjaw

Cursive? They're okay.
TriggerHappy1

Downloaded that song. Not bad, tell me a few other good songs to get.
Trogdor

The Night I Lost the Will to Fight is alright. It's a little more "emo". I really like "Staying Alive". It's sort of long and almost resembles Pink Floyds "Us And Them". Pretty much the whole "Ugly Organ" album is alright.
g36 monkey

I hate that people talk about other people for listening to "emo" music. some people dont even know what it means. Though i will admit some of my music is a bit "emo" nobody messes with me for listening to it. Yet they mess with a little 4'8" kid for it. I stuck up for him, cuz im nice like that.
redneckdeerhunter

alot of ppl make fun of me for likeing country
g36 monkey

There aint nothin wrong wif country, i grew up on that and still listen to it with my dad. im McGraw is the main man. Cool
Glassjaw

People who use "emo" in a serious sense are tools. That's it, nothing more to it.

I'll use it jokingly, and do believe there are some people out there being "emo", if you will, for attention but on the other hand there are people being them selves. A vast majority of the people I know are "themselves" but have traits of others, in otherwords are influenced by others.
tarallo

Use of "emo" as a music term, I'm alright with. For describing people, nope.
TriggerHappy1

Yeah I try as little as possible to label people. And hell, I do like that new Cursive musik, which is kind of emo.... Cant wait to to see what my friends think when they hear I listened to something other than Pink Floyd.

And I downloaded "Staying Alive" and I agree it does resemble Us and Them or something from The Division Bell. Thanks for introducing me to some new music finaly!
g36 monkey

good job guys, we got TH1 out of his little box so he can explore the world around him. Youre all the best guys Laughing
Glassjaw

I'm actually listening to Cursive now....Sink To The Beat. My favourite song by them, the beginning is t3h pwn.
g36 monkey

I cant download music, havent been able to for a long time. Dad wont let me even though he downloads movies (no not those kind)

I dl'd a special edition of Miles Davis - Kind of Blue today. Effing pwns, if you have heard it before. Greatest jazz recordings evar. The special edition part is that the songs are "digitally remastered" and it has an alternate take of "Flamenco Sketches" at the end.
g36 monkey

I dont know much about jazz. Im mor einto lyrics in my songs unless its guitar. I love it when they have good instrumentals in songs. I find myself ffwing or rwing to that part all the time.

I really loved it when him and Coletrane did "Straight No Chaser" together. It was great hearing them both together.

Yeah, also great recording. I like 'Trane's stuff too, same with Miles. They are incredible.

What other jazz do you listen to? I like some older big band stuff, specifically Duke Ellington and Count Basie, and the newer guys like Kenny Garrett, Joshua Redman, Joe Lovano, Branford Marsalis. If you couldn't tell by my music taste, I play the saxophone Very Happy

I really enjoy Maynard Fergesun. I got to meet him this one time and it was really great.

I'm a trumpet player, so I drift twoards brass artists. I really like Miles Davis, Dizzy, and Fergesun. I'm not really into listening to jazz though; I just play it a lot.
tarallo

Cool. You in the high school jazz band? Tryouts for me are going to be soon, the past year I played first tenor, hopefully going to to get the same spot again. Playing "Ira's Tune," hard because it's at 224 BPM.

Anyway, I've been listening to a lot of Glassjaw lately. Mainly from their latest album, "Worship and Tribute," but from their older one too. Go to my xanga to hear "Siberian Kiss." If you don't like their hard(er) stuff, listen to "Trailer Park Jesus." Good rock, no screaming/fast heavy bass drum for you pooses.

I'm going to be in the high school band whenever they start the tryouts. I'll probably only get 4th chair because I'm a freshman and the other people are better than me.

I'll check out some Glassjaw.

Go to my xanga on the www button under my name, that song is "Siberian Kiss" by Glassjaw, it's one of their harder songs.
