wipe hard drive?

my comp is really screwed up and i can't do anything on it.
any one have any suggestions, or know how to wipe a hardrive? or something like that
Ghostslinger

disk defragment and disk clean are your friends. delete any uneccessary programs (disk cleanup should help with that). perhaps its a virus?
Glassjaw

IF you have your windows instillation disks, you could always reinstall windows.
HS

If you want to wipe it,

http://dban.sourceforge.net/

Burn the program to a CD and set your PC to boot on your CD drive. Run it, and set it it run 5 passes. When it's done, reinstall windows.

i did a virus scan (took like 5 restarts of the comp to finally get it to let me do it...) it came upwith thousands of virsues (stilll going). I read the files it was scanning and it was a bunch of stuff i have never heard of, like there was porn no it, but i never downloaded anything on that comp, that comp was for games, talk to friends, and do hw

hope i don't get in trouble for what i didn't do...
HS

Sure..... Smile

Hopefully the scan will fix it. Reinstalling everything is a pain.

so far my mom won't believe me when i say to not touch it while donig the scan... seeing as she is technologically impaired, she screwed up the scan...
wow, just wow...
thanks god i have multiple computers

Google search how to reformat a pc. My first google search got me here http://www.cyberwalker.net/faqs/how-tos/reinstall-faq.html

Your best bet is to reformat. Just re-installing windows will not take care of your problems, especially if you have a mallicious virus.

Make sure you have your installation cd's from your comp. and all driver cd's for additional hardware.

i had a porn virus on this comp a while back and i didnt download anthing, it really screwed up. what virus protection software do you have, i can probably help you figure it out better if i knew....i know lots of about a few programs.
and if you have spybot, run it, it detects and deletes spyware, which is what was on this comp.
abr5

well i tried a system restore to go back like 2 months ago, it didn't work, but i think norton got rid of all the viruses, cause now nothing is going wrong.
Glassjaw

I'd suggest AVG over Mcaffe or Norton.
Roll Tide

Spyware/adware is a likely culprit. I bought Webroot Spysweeper a month or two ago, and my computer has been running like-new ever since.
Ghostslinger

webroot didnt work for me but i like the new McAfee stuff. AVG is also good (my school has it lol)
abr5

most of the viruses are gone, but i still have some spyware that won't come off. i really don't feel like buying new software... any help with the system restore>?
g36 monkey

download spybot from limewire, how i got it, cleans my comp up on a regular basis, veyr easy to understand and use, just called spybot.
abr5

limewire is what started this whole ordeal i think
i tried to download autocad, but it just screwed everything up
g36 monkey

search downloadspybot on google or somethin, might get you the website, i wish i could transfer you the files but it might infect my comp if we connect or w/e plus my dad would get mad Shocked
abr5

maybe i will get my friend to download it then put it on a cd or something
Glassjaw

If you want a hands off spyware cleaner, get Hitman Pro Here
abr5

whenever i try to download it i get this
Bestand of map niet gevonden
Het gevraagde bestand of de gevraagde map bestaan niet. Misschien is het bestand of de map verwijderd of heeft de pagina waar u vandaan komt een incorrecte verwijzing.
Glassjaw

Try This

Just click "Download" in the top right.
abr5

my friend told me to get the microsoft version, so i did, and it seems to be working pretty well
Justice

O and stop dld'ing pron!
abr5

i'm not! lol
turns out i got it when i downloaded limewire. everytime i got rid of the virus, it restored my comp and got it back. Norton Antivirus has this dictionary of viruses and it tells you what to do for each one, so all i did was turned off system restore then did a scan. my comp is running better than ever (though my ping seems a little high)
HS

Which is completely dependent on your internet connection stability and not the well-being of your computer.

How bad are your pings, and to where? Who's your ISP?
