I am considering building a Trebuchet, maybe 8 feet tall extended: http://www.redstoneprojects.com/trebuchetstore/treb_animated.html

I could then buy a cheap case of paint, and load it up to shoot all 2000 balls at once with some good yardage. Would be cool for senarios... a siege engine. Would also be nice to plant on the opposite team right at the beginning of a rec game.

Well we had a few trials to get the angle of the release pin right. Had a metal rod sticking out the top that the rope/object looped onto and released at a certain point. Took a few trys to get the right angle. Once we did we launched a citronella candle over the fence you can see in the pic. Just about 30yards. Could have gotten it much further with more trial and error. But my dad deemed it unsafe before we could... So we burned it.

i maed a mini cataupult in 5th grade, it could shoot pretty far, nad cou probably shoot a squad buster grenade\

a trbuchete would be sooooo cool, cept it would be expensive to shoot 2000 paintballs a shot

For such a beastly machine it looks like your rope is very short. Did you try it longer, only 30 yards is nothing for a few pounds with that size arm. Maybe you limited your velocity?

Perhaps that would have helped. Never considered it though. Does the sling lenght really help with distance?

Sounds like a great idea. I'd love to see it, let alone use it. It would suck looking up at the beginning of a game and seeing a hail of paintballs coming down on you.

I'm not certain if the counterweight should hit the ground or swing like a pendulum.
I'm going to have to build it so I can move it... can't shoot in my backyard.

the only problem is i think you may need to use better paint for this sort of thing because i dont think cheap paint would work coming down....awesome idea and i hate to be a pessimist but i think the would hit and bounce....now if you could really get it to go at a good velocity and not just going more up...then it would definately work Rambo

The cheap paint around here is the thin shell easy breaking econo-tourny stuff. Old balls break easy also. It would be a great use for the cheap eggs you don't trust to put through your marker in a game.
If they fly 100 yards, they should break.
