Demus my savanah monitor was sleeping in the blanket on our bed when my girlfriend grabbed it and put it into the washing machine. She had no idea he was in there, I didn't realize he was missing until after the load had gone through it's cycles, hot water then spin. She feels terrible. When I took him out I thought he was dead. Then I noticed he was a little responsive. I rinsed him with fresh water and flushed his eyes with drops. Now he is weak, moving a little but not walking yet. His eyes look OK but don't track movement like usual. His rear end was is bad shape but looks better now. I don't think he broke any bones. Just burned maybe, drown (but he holds his breath a long time) and spun. If he lives until tomorrow I think he may be OK but I don't 1/2 expect him to make it through the night. I didn't know how attached I had gotten to this animal, and I hope he lives through this and is OK.

i hate it when bad stuff happens to animals...and you dont realize how much you like them until things like that happen.

Every once in awhile he keeps opening his mouth for a moment then closing it. Like he is yawning.

At first I thought maybe he wanted to puke but didn't have the strength. Now I think maybe it is to assist his breathing, reptiles fatigue easily.

I haven't taken him to a vet since this happend a couple hours ago. I'm not sure what the vet could do for me, unless I need to get him put down. We have one "good" reptile vet. I took demus to her when he wasn't eating, and she mis-diagnosed him as well as mis-sexed him (with probe). It also cost a boat load of money to get medical information and treatment that was all false. There is no open wound or broken bone or infection to treat. Not sure if he has a concusion. Vet would just monitor him.

He just sat up a little bit and walked backward a little bit. Saw his tounge flick. He looks very confused. I'm glad he seems to be getting his strength back but his eyes are just kinda rolling and he isn't keeping them open much. He crapped a little bit. I gotta get the soap out of his ears gently.

Here he is now, sleeping. You can see his claw came off from climbing his cage walls, but the vet said that is OK and will grow back. This is one tough little creature. I hope he makes it through this without any permeanent damage.
